Steroid Injections
- Purpose: Reduces inflammation to relieve pain, improve movement, and enable recovery through exercise.
- How It Works:
- Steroids break the pain-inflammation cycle.
- Usually combined with a local anaesthetic for immediate relief.
- When to Expect Results:
- Local anaesthetic works within minutes.
- Steroid effects begin within 2–3 days and peak in 2–3 weeks.
- Duration of Effect:
- Varies depending on the condition and lifestyle.
- Can last from a few weeks to several months.
- Some chronic conditions (e.g., arthritis) may require ongoing management.
- Aftercare Instructions:
- Rest the injected joint for 48 hours.
- Avoid high-impact or repetitive movements for 2 weeks.

Hyaluronic Acid / Visco-Supplementation Injections
What It Is:
- Injections of hyaluronic acid (e.g., Ostenil Plus, Durolane) into synovial joints (e.g., knee, hip, shoulder).
- Helps restore lubrication and shock absorption lost due to osteoarthritis.
- Protects joint cartilage, reduces pain, improves joint function.
- Ostenil Plus contains mannitol to prolong effectiveness.
- Best when pain is related to activity.
- If joint is inflamed even at rest, a steroid injection may be needed first, followed by hyaluronic acid later.
- Effects last several months.
- Safe to repeat when the effect wears off.
